Adam Cantor
Major: Guitar Performance and Biology
Certificate: Spanish and Chemistry

I started playing music when I was 5. I took piano lessons until 6th grade. One summer, while away at summer camp, I found an old dusty guitar with only four strings. I grabbed a pop tab I found, used it as a pick, and started playing. I received my first guitar on my 11th birthday, and have been taking lessons ever since. I am now a senior in the Jacobs School of Music, majoring in Classical Guitar Performance. I am also majoring in Biology, and I am Premed. I am minoring in Spanish and Chemistry. In the 10+ years I have played guitar, I have experimented with many different styles from classical to rock to blues to jazz to folk. I now own several guitars, including a 12-string, an electric, and a ukulele. Acoustic fingerstyle guitar has proven to be my favorite style. I have been inspired by notable artists such as Michael Hedges, Don Ross, Andy Mckee, Don Alder, Antoine Dufour, Tommy Emmanuel, and Preston Reed.

I have had quite a few accomplishments both as a solo performer and with my band, Sure Thing. In October 2008, my band won Big Man On Campus (BMOC), in front of a packed crowd of 4,000 in the IU Auditorium. In January 2009, I competed in Hoosier Guitar Idol and came in 3rd place. In August 2009 I competed in the Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Competition and made the Top 20. I have chosen Youtube as a mechanism to share most of my music with my fans. I have been posting videos and recordings of my music to the popular video-sharing website on my channel, "guitar2adam" for about three years. I have posted over 100 videos which have been watched by almost 1 million people. My goal is to redefine ways in which the guitar can be played, and share music from my perspective.
