Jonathan Godfrey
Major: Doctor of Music degree in Guitar Performance
Minor: Composition and Music Theory


Jonathan Godfrey is an active classical guitarist and composer originally from Atlanta, Georgia. As a performer, he has performed throughout the United States in a variety of venues, ranging from solo recitals to live television broadcasts. As a composer, his works and arrangements have been premiered by such ensembles as the Georgia Guitar Quartet, the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, and members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. His former guitar teachers include Jason Vieaux, Philip Snyder, John Huston, and Eric Jones, and he has additionally performed in masterclasses for such artists as Lorenzo Micheli, Marc Teicholz, Adam Holzman, Matteo Mela, Andrew Zohn, Jeffrey McFadden, and Stephen Robinson, among numerous others. His former composition teachers include Paul Schoenfield and Lee Johnson. He currently studies guitar with Ernesto Bitetti and composition with P.Q. Phan.

Godfrey holds his Bachelor of Music degree in Performance and Composition with a minor in Religion and Philosophy from LaGrange College (GA), magna cum laude, and his Master of Music degree in guitar performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Music degree in Guitar Performance with minor concentrations in Composition and Music Theory at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he maintains an active teaching schedule as an Associate Instructor of guitar. When not performing classical music, Godfrey collaborates with folk/rock Pladd Dot Records recording artist Mary Hannah Riggins.
