Nathan Crowder

Born in a small out of the way town in Indiana, I grew up in a home of hardworking, loving parents. As a young kid, my grandma, "Granny Crowder," introduced me to the piano. She lovingly paid for my weekly lessons, and I repaid her with simple piano songs. When she passed on, I continued playing piano in her memory. I stopped taking lessons and moved on, but the seed had been planted. The love for music had been rooted in me. Years went by, music still had its place in my life but other things had distracted me. It wasn't until the end of my senior year of high school that I picked up a guitar. I was having a rough time in my life and I remember that it was then that my dad introduced me to the guitar. He put an acoustic in my hand and showed me the first basic chords. Back in the day my grandma had showed me the piano and now her son was showing me the guitar. That was my defining moment. I was reborn. I had a purpose: a release, and I ran with it. Chords became songs, scales became melodies, and throughout my first year playing, I eventually found the electric guitar, my dad's of course. He showed me how to use that too and hearing that first epic electric note resound through the amp sent chills down my spine. The guitar is my voice, my weapon, my choice and it ROCKS!!

I am a sophomore here at Indiana University and have been playing guitar for about a year and a half. Rock and roll is my genre of choice. My main influences are Slash and Jimmy Page. They have such defining sounds and melodies that I can only marvel at. I can only hope to be half of what they are someday. The bands I listen to include: Guns N Roses, Led Zeppelin, Velvet Revolver, Disturbed, Metallica, Aerosmith, STP, Shinedown, and Halestorm.
